Memories by Katie: Many of the conventions from when I was very young were in Stanly County. I remember Charlie, who looked the epitome of a mountain man, always being there and happy to see us. He never got tired of having children trailing his steps, and like any true man of our conventions, he helped us get into a lot more trouble than he helped us get out of.
